ROOM NAME

BIANCA

Situated on the ground floor of Villa Ulignano, Bianca is a room with a traditional feel. Being on the ground floor provides easy access throughout the evening to the activities on all four corners of the villa. The Footboard and Headboard share an ornate illustration of a room accent matching bouquet of purple and lilac flowers. Upon touring the rooms, Fiona and I noticed that Bianca’s ceiling is uniquely domed in comparison to many other rooms and adorned by an intricately decorated Chandelier. Features two windows. This room shares a bathroom in the hallway with “Bamboo”, the only other domed bedroom and only other bedroom on this floor. Both rooms have their own unique access to the Ground floor East Breakfast room. Final detail to note, there is a cute little arrangement of mirrors beside the bed housed in ornately decorated antique frames!

ROOM PLAN
HISTORY

The history of Villa di Ulignano begins with Jacopo Inghirami (1565 – 1623) Governor of the port town of Livorno and Knight of the Order of St. Stephen, an exclusive naval “club” created by the Medici family under the guise of a religious order. He owned many estates in the area and having decided to build a country residence, he commissioned the famous Florentine architect Gherardo Silvani (1579-1675) to build the Villa di Ulignano in the countryside of Volterra. While the Villa was essentially used by the noble family who owned it as a retreat from their social and professional commitments, the estate was also home to a community of farmers who worked the estate’s land, producing wine, olive oil, wheat and vegetables.
